Oncology
Combining passion with purpose
Different targets for various cancers
Our pipeline offers therapies for both solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. The term solid tumor is used to describe all cancer types affecting body tissue with the exception of the blood, bone marrow and lymphatic system. They include such frequent types as prostrate cancer in men or breast cancer in women as well as kidney, liver, lung or panreatic cancer.
One of the key points of departure in Bayer Schering Pharma's oncology research is locating suitable target structures in the development of a tumor from which innovative therapeutic strategies can be derived. Results of this research have included so-called kinase inhibitors and antiangiogenic active substances, which prevent the tumor from supplying itself with nutrients.
In the long term, the treatment of cancer will develop into an more individualized therapy. Bayer Schering Pharma is therefore also exploring the possibility of determining in advance which active substances will work best for which patient to ensure that the therapy is as effective as possible. In this context the researchers constantly have one main objective in mind: one day they would like to give hope to patients and take away the fear that is still often felt today when a person is diagnosed as having cancer.
Dialogue and exchange of ideas enhances quality of care
Beyond our own research efforts, we cooperate in multiple partnerships with health care professionals, academic research centers, other pharmaceutical companies, and innovative biotechnology organizations. Our solid relationships with the scientific community foster an open exchange of ideas and information and help to expand our vision of treatment.
